Till We Meet Again

Behind the scenes of a Peruvian wood block printer.

Tania Brun

A wall of memento mori. Dancing skeletons, calavera portraits, a moon ringed by skulls, the Spanish handwriting threading "mi cabeza…" through the frames. Brun's skulls aren't grim; they're company.

  • Till We Meet Again is a unique and inspiring book that offers a glimpse into the life and artwork of Tania Brun, a talented artist from Arequipa, Peru. Through behind-the-scenes photographs and a wide range of her artwork, the book showcases Brun's versatility as she moves freely between printmaking, woodcuts, linocuts, embroidery, and illustration.

One of the most striking aspects of Brun's artwork is her exploration of Andean imagery and wider Latin American visuality, which she combines with her own personal style to create a unique dialogue between herself and her Peruvian heritage. Her black and white, powerful direct dark lines expose the light, and her skulls and characters are reclaimed as Peruvian art.

Till We Meet Again highlights Brun's ability to express complex themes of life, death, loss, and humor in her artwork, which is consistently exploring ways of disseminating Latin American visual culture. Her close relationship to the punk rock scene of Peru is also expressed through her album covers, and she acknowledges the influence of outstanding Peruvian painter Luis Solorio on her work.

In her art, Brun incorporates elements from colonial Peruvian paintings, and she draws huge inspiration from Andean imagery. Till We Meet Again is a unique document that not only educates but also inspires readers to appreciate the beauty and complexity of Latin American visual culture through the eyes of a talented artist.
