Art Jakarta Gardens 2026: A Walk Through One of the City's Most Striking Annual Events
The Art Jakarta Gardens 2026 programme — the fifth edition of the outdoor art fair, held at Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta.
Jakarta isn't short of energy at the best of times, but there's something genuinely special about Art Jakarta Gardens, an outdoor art fair that manages to feel both ambitious and intimate, tucked into a beautiful green corner of the city near Hutan Kota by Plataran, on the GBK side. If you haven't been, it's worth knowing about.
This year marked the fifth edition of the event, inaugurated by Culture Minister Fadli Zon, and the scale has grown impressively: 26 galleries, 31 sculptures, and five new galleries joining from across Asia for the first time. For a fair still finding its place in the regional calendar, that's a meaningful step forward.

We visited on a warm afternoon and warm is doing some work there, it was genuinely hot with the kind of tropical downpour that Jakarta does so well making an appearance. The fair runs in ticketed 1.5-hour time slots, which keeps the crowd manageable, though by the half-hour mark things were starting to buzz. Staff and security were friendly and welcoming throughout.
The outdoor sculpture trail is where the fair really comes into its own. Works are displayed on marble plinths across the garden grounds, with the Jakarta skyline and the thatched Plataran rooftop as a backdrop, it's the kind of setting that makes even familiar work feel fresh. One highlight was seeing MOT (Ministry of Toys) represented here; it's good to see them gaining traction in the fine art space, and their work translates well at this scale.
Inside the gallery tents, the offering was broad with striking works from Indonesian and regional artists. From figurative large-scale canvases to bold geometric abstracts with the usual mix of established names and emerging voices you'd expect at a fair of this size.
If you follow the Southeast Asian art scene closely, some of what's on show will feel familiar. There's a degree of continuity from previous editions, and seasoned fair-goers may recognise galleries and works they've encountered before. But for anyone coming to it fresh, or with clients and colleagues to introduce to the scene, it remains a compelling and accessible entry point.

The venue itself — Hutan Kota by Plataran — is genuinely one of Jakarta's most pleasant spots. Green, calm, with the city towers visible over the treeline. It's the right home for this kind of event, and it's hard to imagine it working anywhere else in the city quite as well.
Art Jakarta Gardens runs as part of the broader Jakarta art calendar and is well worth a visit if you're in the city during the run. Keep an eye on timeslot availability, it sells out and go earlier in the day if the heat is a concern
